On the internet, it is said that the castle in the video game "The ICO" is shaped like a human womb.
I had wondered it is said by Fumito Ueda, the director of the game, or not. So I cheked some books and web sites related to the game.
In result, I found folowing discriptions. This is an interview with Kenji Kaido(producer), Junichi Hosono(planner), and Fumito Ueda in "ICO official guide book" published in japan.
Kaido:That map configuration is barely consistent.
Hosono:Ueda combined some stages first, after that filled out spaces.
Ueda:I combined the castle last at once. First few stages and the ending of story had been fixed, but stages beetween those was made at once after.
Hosono:If you see the castle from above...
Ueda:It is shaped like a womb.
Hosono:It implies the birth of new life. The point through which escaping from the castle by boat is relevant to the point of birth of life.
